"Chris' arrangement of 'Winter Games' is both beautiful and inspiring. He thoughtfully and masterfully adapted my piece into an exciting genre that I never thought possible. Either he's incredible or I'm a jazz musician after all - or both!!" - David Foster
"Great arrangements and compositions with a superb contemporary touch - Wonderful performances. Very inspiring!" - Jorge Calandrelli
"Writing for a Big Band could be looked at as a dying breed of individuals. With the exception of great talents such as John Clayton, Maria Schneider, and last but certainly not least, Chris Walden. Chris's writing for Big Band reminds me very much of the great arrangers from that era, such as Ernie Wilkins, Billy May and Neil Hefti, but he has added his own style and contemporary ideas to the mix." - Tommy LiPuma
"Congratulations to 'No Bounds', a really extraordinary piece of work, great compositions, great arrangements, great solos. I feel touched listening to this CD. What also touches me is that I feel a European component in everything I have heard, something that Chris was able to inflect in his writing. I am quite happy I started the day with this truly remarkable recording." - Peter Herbolzheimer

I am proud to present our new big band album which features some interesting guest soloists as well as some of our regular players. For two tracks I also added a string section and french horns to the band. Here's a little explanation to the tracks on this album:
David Foster has been a musical influence for me long before I got to meet and work for him. As a tribute to him I arranged this jazzed-up version of his WINTER GAMES. This recording was released earlier as a single just in time for the Olympic Winter Games in Torino. The arrangement of WHEN YOU WISH UPON A STAR was inspired by a version Wynton Marsalis recorded with strings. The title track NO BOUNDS I wrote for my good friend and pianist Frank Chastenier with whom I played together in the late 80's in the German National Youth Big Band (BuJazzO) under my mentor Peter Herbolzheimer. I arranged PEOPLE WILL SAY WE'RE IN LOVE and SMILE for Tierney Sutton for our live appearances with her.
CLAX'S THEME is a composition by German trumpeter Till Brönner in honor of the great jazz photographer Willam Claxton. Till and I also started out together in the German National Youth Big Band (BuJazzO) . Every married man will get the story behind IN THE DOGHOUSE. In the intro you will hear the argument between husband and wife... TRY HARDER is an original composition I wrote for the US army big band "Jazz Knights" in West Point, NY. The arrangement of SOMEDAY MY PRINCE WILL COME was inspired by the famous recording of Miles Davis. (Thanks to Hubert Nuss for borrowing me the transcription of Wynton Kelly's piano intro.) OTTERKAM was originally a filmscore I wrote in the mid 90's for a German TV-movie. IT'S A SMALL WORLD AFTER ALL is the third "Disney"-song on this album and everybody who also has children and has been to Disneyland more than once probably can relate to my urge to twist these tunes beyond recognition...
